Robert A. Sherman is to become the next United States Ambassador to Portugal, the Barack Obama administration announced late on Thursday.
With a degree in law from the University of Boston, Robert Sherman has founded a law firm, served as assistant Attorney General and sat on the Holocaust Memorial Council since the beginning of this year.
Sherman also follows the trend of the last two decades as a political appointment with his Lisbon nomination coming off the back of an importance role as a fund raiser in Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.
His appointment still requires approval from the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee but Sherman is expected to take over from Allan Katz who ends his service as US Ambassador to Portugal at the end of this month following his arrival in early 2010.
