Troika: Austerity programme “not ours”

Troika representatives told Portuguese labour confederation and business leaders Monday quite clearly that the adjustment programme going on in the country was the responsibility of the government and said it was important to maintain “political dialogue”.

Speaking after a meeting with the so-called troika (International Monetary Fund, European Central Bank and European Commission) the labour and business leaders were unanimous that the meeting was nothing more than a simple “hearing”, but that the EC representative had made it quite clear that the adjustment programme “is not the troika’s”, but the government’s.
