Tourism: Holiday package to feature language and cookery classes

A week of holidays with cookery and/or language classes thrown in and even the chance for a spot of grape harvesting is on offer in the “Taste Portugal” programme announced by state tourism agency Turismo de Portugal on Tuesday.

In a press statement, Turismo de Portugal explained that €1,000 would get you a week of accommodation, lunches, training sessions and classes with two pilot courses running in the Algarve, between 17  and 23 June, and Lamego, in the Douro valley, between 1 and 8 September.

The packages, described as opportunities for “unique cultural and gastronomic experiences” also feature visits to wineries, markets and salting facilities to show the range of Portuguese products that are then cooked under the supervision of professional chefs from the hotel and catering university facilities hosting the courses.

In Lamego, activities also extend to participation in the Douro Valley wine harvest with the packages due to be rolled out should they attract due interest.
