Clubbing: Where to party in the Algarve this month

Whatever the sounds that get you going, there’s something for everyone this month in the Algarve, from heavyweight DJs who always draw the crowds like American Steve Aoki and his euphoric sounds, to London’s Ministry of Sound resident DJs, without forgetting the many themed parties.

Meo Spot Summer Sessions

Iconic Meo Spot Summer Sessions – that took over from the Sasha Summer Summer Sessions – on Praia da Rocha in Portimão is one of the most anticipated events of this summer. This edition’s highlight is the one-off performance by US DJ Steve Aoki on 22 August guaranteed to get thousands of Portuguese fans grooving to electro sounds. Other DJs include Portuguese DJ Vibe (15 August), Pete Tha Zouk (18 August) and Richie Campbell (8 August) who is bringing the sounds of reggae to Portimão.

Le Club

In Santa Eulália, Albufeira, Le Club offers a star-studded lineup featuring several DJs from London’s Ministry of Sound. Every Wednesday, Le Club puts the Londoners in charge with Stu Ojelay (1 August), Igor Project (8 August), Patrick Haagennaar (15 August) and Stephanie Jay (22 August). Thursdays are reserved for “More than a Woman”, the club’s own take on ladies’ nights.

Sétima Onda

At Sétima Onda, in front of the Albufeira Inatel beach, highlights include the Spice Things Up Bacardi Oakheart party with DJ Chadubritt on 4 August and the Moët & Chandon champagne Ice Impérial party, with DJs Ruby Marta and Jane Best on 11 August.

Vilamoura’s Bliss, one of the Algarve’s trendiest clubs, also has plenty going on this month. There is the unmissable LMFAO concert after-party on 7 August. Portuguese DJ collective Meninos da Vadiagem will be working the turntables on 5, 12 and 19 August. American duo The Martinez Brothers are also putting in an appearance on 17 August, and the Moët & Chandon Once Upon a Night party is booked for 18 August.

Manta Beach

After a few logistical hiccups, Manta Beach club at the beach of the same name in Vila Real de Santo António has managed to open its doors. The club starts the month in style with a foam party on 1 August. On 2 August deep house duo Liquideep provides the sounds, followed by another dance music mogul, Spaniard DJ David Penn, who will be dispensing house and techno sounds on 3 August.

One of the Algarve’s newest night hangouts is… Wonderful. The Wonderful Beach Club opened its doors in Tavira late July with Portuguese and international DJs. Due to some delays, their lineup was not yet complete at the time of writing but some of the highlights already include Portuguese duo BodyTalk on 1 August and DJ Christian F on 2 August. Producer and DJ Tim Royko step in on 3 August for a party sponsored by Ballantine’s, while New Yorker Denis Ferrer takes over on 4 August. According to the organisers, there will also be partying on Sundays with the added bonus of no minimum consumption being required.

Capítulo V

At Albufeira’s Capítulo V located right in front of Praia da Oura, four cult Portuguese DJs will make themselves at home. DJ Vibe kicks off the party on 4 August, followed by DJ Rui Vargas on 7 August straight out of Lisbon’s flagship club Lux, DJ Diego Miranda on 10 August and DJ Pedro Tabuada on 17 August. Another highlight is the Fashion TV party on 16 August with the presence of Portuguese DJ Miss Blondie.
