Economy minister: “No one can feel comfortable” with job numbers
The European Union (EU) statistics office released figures showing the number of people in a job in Portugal fell 4.3% in the first quarter of 2012.
Portuguese Minister for Economy and Employment Álvaro Santos Pereira said on Friday that “no one can feel comfortable with the employment figures” released by Eurostat.
Unemployment must be the centre of our attention as no one can sit back while there are job seekers out there that want to work”, he said on the sidelines of a visit to a factory in V. N. Gaia near Porto.
The European Union (EU) statistics office released figures showing the number of people in a job in Portugal fell 4.3% in the first quarter of 2012, a much higher number than elsewhere in the EU, where employment shrank 0.5%.
