The fair includes live demonstrations of local products by nine craftsmen and a gastronomy exhibition.
The Atlantic island of Madeira is holding a wine, embroidery and handicraft fair in the capital between 9 and 15 May as part of its Flower Festival.
Organised by the Madeira Institute of Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts (IVBAM), the fair includes live demonstrations of local products by nine craftsmen and a gastronomy exhibition.
Madeira embroidery inspired by flowers” is the theme of the fair that is to occupy the capital’s main Avenida Arriaga.
The exhibition will be dynamic and celebrates Madeira embroidery and regional handicrafts, highlighting the aesthetic while showing the utilitarian side of the products” a communiqué from IVBAM said.
The gastronomic part includes four chefs from the island who will present delicacies made from flowers and some Madeira wine.
The Flower Festival is one of the biggest tourist attractions on the island with the government investing about €300,000 in the event.
Hotels expect about 90% occupancy rates.
