FC Porto sits on top of the UEFA Champions League group A following a 1-0 win over Paris St-Germain, thanks to a late strike by James Rodríguez.
The match at Estádio do Dragão displayed a somewhat unexpected dominance by Porto, relegating PSG to occasional counter-attacks, and the wasted chances suggested the score line could have been wider in Porto’s favour.
In the first half, James and Moutinho (twice) could have given the home team the lead, while PSG answered through Ibrahimovic, but the Swede missed two opportunities.
Porto’s full pitch pressure damped any construction attempts by the French side, which couldn’t even change from a supported passing game that didn’t work.
It would be seven minutes before the final whistle when Rodriguez finally beat the opposing keeper through a first-touch finish inside the box, finally materialising Porto’s control of the match, after several wasted chances. In the second half, PSG’s offence was nothing but some counter-attack attempts that yielded but a single shot that sailed over the crossbar.
