Athletics: Portuguese wins bronze medal in Helsinki

Portuguese 26 year-old Sara Moreira was awarded the bronze medal in the women’s athletics 5000m race at the 21st European Athletics Championship held in Helsinki, Finland.

Moreira, according to news agency Lusa, started the race on a negative note after being shown a yellow card for false starting, but she managed to overcome the incident, reaching the finish line in third (15.12.05m), even leading in certain moments.

This was Moreira’s second bronze medal after also reaching third place at the European Athletics Championship in Barcelona, in 2010.

Russian athlete Olga Golovkina (15.11.70m) and Ukranian Lyudmila Kovalenko (15.12.03m) won the gold and silver medals, respectively.
