Athletics: Portuguese Felix wins women’s 10,000m at Helsinki
Ana Dulce Félix finished her long distance race in first place, winning the first gold medal for Portugal in the 2012 European Athletics Championships.
Portuguese athlete Ana Dulce Félix won a gold medal at the 2012 European Athletics Championships after coming first in the 10,000m race Sunday, 1 July.
The long distance runner finished the race in 31:44.75, a personal record, followed by British Jo Pavey and Ukrainian Olga Skypark.
Ana Dulce Félix competes in track, cross country and road running events. She was the runner-up at the 2011 European Cross Country Championships, winning a silver medal, and will now represent Portugal in the 2012 London Olympic Games, where she will compete in the marathon.
This was the third medal won by the Portuguese team at the 21st European Athletics Championships, held in Helsinki, Finland. The two other athletes who made it to the podium were Sara Moreira, who came third in the 5,000m race, and Patrícia Mamona, who came second in the triple jump.
