Tourism is one of Portugal’s most important sectors, and tourism officials are trying to target new customers with a range of new products aimed at different market segments.

The prestigious World Travel Awards 2012 acknowledged the Algarve as Europe’s top beach destination, and Portugal as Europe’s top golf destination.

According to the Algarve Hotel and Tourist Resort Association’s own figures, the fall in the numbers of Portuguese (10%) and Spanish (20%) visitors was offset by the rise in British (+16.1%) and Dutch (17.3%) tourists.

September is grape harvesting season in Portugal. PDV reveals how you can take part in one of the country’s oldest wine-making traditions in the magnificent Douro Valley, home to world-famous Port wine.
