In another match to complete the season calendar, Porto thrived under its recently conquered title and thrashed Rio Ave (5-2). Meanwhile, Académica de Coimbra avoided relegation and Feirense will return to the second division.
With nothing to play for but the pure joy of entering the pitch as champions, Porto had an inspired Kléber accounting for three of the five goals. Rio Ave was no match for the young Brazilian’s accuracy and Porto closed the season in fashion.
Académica de Coimbra and Feirense struggled to avoid relegation. The former sentenced the contention with a 2-1 victory at Guimarães, while the latter fell at Barcelos.
Second-place Benfica still had one aim left: to help Cardozo win the top scorer trophy. The striker scored once against Vitória de Setúbal and thus remained at the top of the list, weary that Braga‘s Lima would be playing later on.
Braga‘s last aim was to have Lima score more than once at Estádio de Alvalade. However, it was another striker who shined during the match: van Wolfswinkel‘s hat-trick propelled Sporting past Braga in the only revenge possible for Sá Pinto’s men once the standings were settled.
Despite the Dutchman’s three goals keeping Sporting above Braga, Lima also managed to score but it wasn’t enough for the Brazilian to surpass Cardozo.
